Assistant Chief Engineering

Job Purpose

Provide the support, assistance and information necessary to Chief Engineering (CE) to operate most effectively. Assume fully the CE's responsibilities in any absence from the office.

Primary Responsibilities

FINANCIAL

• Assist the CE in all matters related to the implementation of an effective budget control.

• Check wastage and ensure optimum use of material in the operation.

• Prepare operational document and report on energy consumption.

OPERATIONAL

• Assist the CE in every aspect of the operation as requested.

• Report to the CE any abnormal conditions noticed at any time with life, safety related equipment.

• Substitute for the CE in all matters in any absence from duty.

• Supervise technicians and contractors under his responsibility for performance, quality of work and attendance.

• Prepare weekly work schedules in accordance with workload and priorities for approval by the CE.

• Perform at least once during his duty a routine inspection of all engineering operational areas (plant rooms) and report any equipment malfunction to the CE.

• Control and verify all engineering log book entries.

• Supervise all hazardous work and ensure that all safety procedures are strictly observed.

• Monitor the implementation of all energy saving procedures and report any irregularities and noncompliance to the CE.

• Prepare monthly utility consumption reports and keep constant monitor on utility consumption.

• Check timely completion of maintenance requests paying particular attention to guest related jobs.

• Assist purchasing office in the purchase of engineering spare parts and consumables.

• Prepare purchase requests and follow up the minimum stock of engineering store.

• Assist the CE with the preparation of planned preventative maintenance and guest room servicing procedures.

• Provide cost and time estimates for work requests.

• Allocate work requests, scheduled maintenance and repairs to the technicians.

• Coordinate and supervise contractors to ensure compliance with the Hotel's rule and regulation.

• Coordinate with other hotel departments to schedule repair and maintenance work.

• Assist in the training of employees ensuring that they have the necessary skills to perform their duties with maximum efficiency.

• Ensure all employees maintain a clean, tidy and safe work area.

• Ensure that all employees have a complete understanding the Hotel's Employee Rules and Regulations.

• Perform, handle daily briefing, monthly briefing with technicians.

• Ensure all systems in hotel are operational.

• Regularly inspects the entire building with particular attention on defective or deficient life safety features and to observe closely the condition of all operating equipment. Specific attention must be placed on areas of difficult access.

• Ensure life, fire and safety system are operational.

• Discharge hazardous waste in right designed place.

RISK MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensuring that all activities are performed in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S), EEO, Rehabilitation and Environmental procedures, legislation or good practice.

• Responding to and reporting any hazardous situations.

• Reviewing all tasks to assist in improving safety.

• Promoting OH&S, EEO, Rehabilitation and Environmental management with employees and contractors

OTHER DUTIES

• Perform duties outside the scope of the position in case of emergency, when called upon.

• Be on call after normal operating hours and coordinate technicians after hours if necessary.

• Carry out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as assigned.

• Attend meetings and training sessions as required.

• Ensure all works carried out meet company's quality standards and requirements.

• Co-ordinate with clients, sub-contractors and consultants on all project matters.

• Ensure safe work procedures and environmental control measures at site.

Knowledge and Experience

• Degree in mechanical and electrical engineering

• 3-5 years in industry experience in a similar role

• Experience in similar size/style of hotel 4*, 5* resort/business

• Must be able to read Engineering drawings and technical literature.

• Good command of written and spoken English

• Ability to find fault and rectify subsystems are essentials.
